Merlie Thelma Moseley
Merlie Thelma Moseley, 95, a lifetime resident of Rector, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Piggott Community Hospital.
She had been a resident at Murphy Health and Rehabilitation in Piggott for the last four years and served as president of the Residents Association there.
Mrs. Moseley was born Aug. 30, 1912, to the late Tom and Kate (Long) Gardner. She will be remembered by many for her active role in the Rector community. She emceed the Rector Labor Day Picnic baby contest for 49 years, sold Stanley and Studio Girl Products for over 40 years, was the Queen for the Northeast Arkansas District Nursing Home Association and was first runnerup for the State at age 93.
She was a charter member at Simmons Chapel Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rector. She was a member of the Eastern Star and served in several positions, including Worthy Grand Matron. She also was a member of the Extension Homemaker's Club and at one time catered for special events, specializing in wedding cakes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Moseley, and her son, William Moseley.
She is survived by two granddaughters and their husbands, Elizabeth Sue and Tracy Ashcraft and Teresa Ann and Stan Judd; two great-grandchildren, Shane and Cateena; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Saltzman of Campbell, Mo.; two nieces, Linda Saltzman Hudson of Kentucky and Pam Deckand of St. Francis, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon Thursday, March 20, at Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Rev. Roger Armstrong officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
