He was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Pollard, the son of the late George and Bessie Acord Gross.
He was united in marriage to Alma Permenter on March 20, 1945, and the couple had one son.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; three sisters, Catherine Kirk, Cora Prince and Ora McKenney, and a brother, Frank Gross
He was converted at a very early age and served the Lord all his life. He belonged to New Hope Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over 50 years. He served in the Marine Corps and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
He is survived by a son, Tom Gross and wife Betty of Pollard; a granddaughter, Kristen Culver and husband Richie of Pollard; a brother, Omer Gross and wife Pansy of Jonesboro, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Loy Culver officiating. Pallbearers were Nick Yount, John Dover, Gaylon Burkman, Wayne Hendley, Sonny Johnson, and Gary McKenney. Honorary pallbearers were James Huggins, Gene Teachenor, Luke Palmer, Bob Palmer, Melvin Holifield, Slim Braden, Glynn Yount, Bud Baxter and Van Rodery. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard.
Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
