Alza Girtue Kirk Hil

Alza Girtue Kirk Hill was born Nov. 17, 1906, in Randolph County near Eleven Points to J.R. and Birdie Kirk. She died Monday, March 24, 2008, in Randolph Home at the age of 101.

She was the oldest of nine children and was preceded in death by both parents; two sisters, Alva Gearhart and Louise Luter; five brothers, Theodore, Thaniel, Thadis, Troy and Louis Kirk; three grandsons, infant Hale, Denny Hill and Zachary Hill; two sons, James Hill and Johnny Hill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jess Alexander Hill, whom she had missed very much since his death Oct. 28, 1996.

Jess and Alza were married Feb. 17, 1929, by Rev. G.W. Million in Old Reyno at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Crawford with many friends and relatives in attendance. Throughout their marriage they were very successful at farming, and met life's challenges each day believing they could make a difference in their life and lives of their family.

The couple had three sons, James, Gaylord and Johnny, and one daughter, Pansy. Mrs. Hill spent her life as a homemaker working hard, loving, sharing and caring for her family.

She accepted Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior at age 18 during a revival at Old Reyno. She was baptized in the Current River at Biggers, and was a member of the Biggers Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Gaylord and wife Sylvia of Forrest City; a daughter, Pansy and husband Johnny Williams of Biggers; a daughter-in-law, Jo Hill of Marksville, La.; and ex-daughter-in-law Pat Hill of Pineville, La.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Alma Hawkins of Jonesboro; two sisters-in-law, Raye Kirk of Biggers, and Marie Kirk of Festus, Mo.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Services were held Thursday, March 27, in the chapel of the McNabb Funeral Home at Pocahontas with Bro. Loy Culver and Bro. Tommy Medley officiating. Burial was in the Randolph Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Justin Williams, Rick Williams, Steven Hill, Jim Gearhart, Brady Brouillette and Joey Hill.

McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas was charged with the arrangements.
