David Neal Shelton
David Neal Shelton, 37, of Rector died Monday, April 16, 2001, at his home.
He was a sanitation engineer for Shelton Sanitation and was a life-long resident of Rector.
He was born Dec. 28, 1963, in Kennett, Mo.
Shelton was an outstanding athlete at Rector High School, earning all-state honors as a second baseman. He was the leading hitter on his high school team. He earned a baseball scholarship to Arkansas State University, where he played as a right fielder.
He also coached softball and baseball and played baseball, football, golf and basketball.
He was a member of the Ninth and Hafford Church of Christ.
Shelton is survived by his wife, the former Michelle Robinson. They were married Aug. 10, 1984, in Rector.
Other survivors are his daughters, Brittany Danielle Shelton and Lindsey Nicole Shelton, both of the home; his parents, Dewey and Betty Shelton of Rector; his mother-in-law, Earline Robinson of Jonesboro; his brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Valerie Shelton of Paragould; a sister-in-law, Lisa Scott of Jonesboro; two nephews and a niece, Stephen Scott and Matthew and Haley Shelton; his grandmother, Jewell Gotthardt of Piggott, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ray Robinson, on June 3, 1995; his maternal grandparents, Von and Jeanetta Keller; his paternal grandparents, Artie and Gertie Shelton; a brother-in-law, Kevin Ray Robinson, and several uncles and aunts.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel with James Henry Dortch and Herbert Starr officiating.
Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Irby Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were Gregg Sain, Brian Woods, Dennis Barber, Tim Sinko, Terry Bracken, Walter Burdin, Kenny Slaven and Kenny Falukner.
