Citywide yard sale rescheduled to Saturday
The Rector citywide yard sale has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 26, and will begin at 8 a.m.
Rainy weather this past Saturday put a damper on much of the event.
Organizers said there have been some misunderstanding on the specifics. The Parks and Recreation Commission is urging participants to setup at either of the city parks, preferably the Downtown Park, but anyone is welcome to have their yard sale at their home.
"We realize that it will be difficult for some to move to the parks," a spokesman said. "Complaints from visitors over the past years about the sales being so widespread have prompted this trial run. The setups will be on first-come-first-serve basis."
No specific areas are designated in the Labor Day Park but, in the Downtown Park, the streets will be closed allowing use of the sidewalks and streets for setups.
The Beautification Committee ask that persons do not setup inside the park and help to keep the beautiful park clean and presentable.
"Remember that sales on any day other than Oct. 19 will need a permit from the city," the spokesman said.
"As per city ordinances, the parks will be available for sales on Oct. 26 only."
