Lady Hounds topple Rector, 67-40

MARMADUKE -- The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds, still ranked second in the state in class AA improved to 30-1 on the year with a 67-40 over the Lady Cougars of Rector in a game played at Marmaduke Friday night.

A driving layup by Beth Grigsby at 7:49 gave the Lady Hounds a 2-0 lead. After Beth Grigsby scored inside again Brooke Grigsby followed suit and the score was 6-0. When Brooke Grigsby hauled down a rebound and fired a long pass to Keena Graham who hit a layup the score was 8-0.

The freethrows by Rector's Jessica Hill at 5:43 ended the Lady Hound run making the score 8-2. Four straight freethrows by Beth Grigsby and a jumpshot by Sara Parmenter left the score 12-4.

Brooke Grigsby then passed to Heather Johnson for a layup at 4:07 and the Lady Hounds led 14-4. After Johnson hit a trey at 3:39 the Lady Hounds 10 sucessive points for a 27-4 lead.

Hill ended the run with a layup at 0:08 that shaped the quarter ending the score at 27-6. The Lady Hounds led at the halftime break 36-21 and were up at the end of the third quarter 60-28.

Beth Grigsby led her team in scoring with 27 points. Twelve of her points came in the first quarter . Johnson tallied 17 points and Brooke Grigsby scored 10 points .Danielle Vincent and Lauren Wright each netted 4 points. Terri Graham had 3 points and Keena Graham added 2 points.

The Lady Cougars are 4-16 {1-11}this year. Hill led the way for Rector with 22 points.

Tylee Tracer scored 10 points. Lindsey Bell and Angela Tucker each had 3 points and Parmenter scored 2 points.

The Junior Lady Cougars continued to impress as they beat their inter-county rivals 35-17.

Haley Harmon led Rector with 14 points and she added 6 rebounds .Jamie Beck had 6 points.

Lauren Faulkner scored 4 points,dished out 5 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds. Abbe' McCarroll had 4 points and 5 rebounds. Skye Sheperd made 4 points and Tara Shepard scored 3 points. The Junior Lady Cougars are now 14-5{9-3} this season.

For Marmaduke, Lindsey Hickson had 7 points. Jade Brinkley scored 4 points. Brooke Smith, Danielle Bateman and Mindy Grooms had 2 points apiece.

Marmaduke won the 7th grade game 21-18. Sara Potter scored 8 points for Marmaduke, Taylor Graham had 7 points , Jamie Ricker had 4 points and Shawna Spurling scored 2 points.

For Rector Hannah Parsley had 16 points and Allison Smart tallied 2 points.

Lady Cougar coach Shane Robinson said, "The junior game was a big win for us. We were tied with Marmaduke for second before the game. About the senior high game he said, "The girls came out flat tonight but they battled hard all night and never gave up."

Lady Hound coach Matt Dean said, "We played pretty well tonight. Beth took control of the game again tonight. She has shown a lot of leadership in the last few games."

Tuesday the Lady Hounds traveled to Walnut Ridge and defeated the Lady Bobcats 50-32.

With three starters out because of sickness or injury Beth Grigsby took control of the game by scoring 26 points. Wright scored 16 points, Danielle Vincent had 5 points and Terri Graham tallied 3 points.

The Junior Lady Hounds beat Walnut Ridge 35-21. Smith scored 10 points, Nailing had 9 points, Hickson had 4 points and Shelly White and Autumn Hyten each had 4 points .Brinkley added 4 points.
