Edith Olivia Duckworth

Edith Olivia Duckworth, 81, of Jonesboro, formerly of Greenway, died Friday, March 21, 2003, in the St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born June 29, 1921, in Monette, Ark., the daughter of the late Harvey and Ethel Owen Speakes.

She was united in marriage to James "J.D." Duckworth on Oct. 28, 1942. To this union two children were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Duckworth on Oct. 3, 2002, and one sister, Edna Jo Goldsmith.

She is survived by one son, Carroll Duckworth and wife, Eva, of Jonesboro; one daughter, Kathy Groth and husband, Carl, of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Mark Duckworth of Jonesboro, Craig Duckworth and wife, Heather, of St. Charles, Mo., Renee Scheffler of Savannah, Ga., and Brian Duckworth of Jackson, Miss.; three great-grandchildren, Kilby Scheffler, Emma Duckworth and Noah Duckworth; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with James Henry Dortch officiating. Burial followed in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector. Pallbearers were Jerry Parks, Dewayne Moore, Mike Morgan, Alvie Chilcutt, James Engle, and Tom Simms. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
