Glenn W. Layer, 79, of Jonesboro, formerly of Kennett, died Sunday May 11, 2003.

He was born April 16, 1924, in Rector, the son of the late Floy and Maude Layer.

He was a veteran of World War II and was a retired agricultural teacher. He was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Herbert Layer.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Shannon Layer of Jonesboro; two sons, Eugene Layer and Dennis Layer of Jonesboro; one brother, W.O. Layer of Rector; one sister, Louise Rowton of Rector; and three grandchildren, Shauna Layer, Katie Layer and Callie Layer.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 14, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Bill Orr officiating.

Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Joey Pruett, Perry Mills, Anthony Rowton, Jim Shannon, Larry Pruitt and John Calhoun.
