Sue Bucy

Sue Bucy, 70, of Searcy died Saturday, May 10, 2003, after a long period of health problems.

She was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Walnut Ridge, the daughter of the late Al and Audrey Long.

She attended public schools in St. Louis, Walnut Ridge and Pocahontas before graduating from Rector High School in 1949. Prior to moving to Searcy, she was employed at Title I Coordinator for the Rector Public Schools.

Mrs. Bucy was employed by Harding University from 1969 until her retirement in 1995 and was selected as Staff Member of the Year in 1988. She was a member of the College Church of Christ.

She had been a member of Associated Women for Harding. She had a number of hobbies, but her main personal interest was supporting her family members' activities. She enjoyed painting until she was no longer able to paint because of neuropathy in her hands.

Mrs. Bucy was an avid reader and served as volunteer to help elementary school reading program. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, flower gardening and bird watching.

She is survived by her husband, Jess Bucy; two daughters, Carol Knight of Memphis and Beverly Frizzell of Harrison; two grandsons, Robert and Jonathan Knight of Memphis; three sisters, Sally Hopper of Hardy, Sandra Russell of Rector and Cindy Cooper of Bee Branch; one brother, Charles Long of Beebe; three nieces and four nephews; three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, at the College Church of Christ in Searcy.

Burial was in Woodland heights Cemetery in Rector with Powell Funeral Home of Searcy in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Harold Alexander, Harmon Bryon, Don Eads, Don England, Howard Morris, Joe Seagraves, Robert Knight, Jonathan Knight, Billy Hopper, Bill Russell, Ronnie Cooper and Terry Frizzell.

The family requests memorials be made to either the College Church of Christ Building Fund or the Childrens Home of Paragould.
