Mattie Francis Midkiff, 88, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Crestmont Healthcare Center in Fenton, Mich. after a long illness.

She was born Dec. 28 1914 in Rector to William and Paralee Pruett (Yancey).

She was married to Charlie (Buck) Midkiff on Oct. on 1933 in Kennett. They moved to Fenton in 1951 and raised their 6 children there.

Mrs. Midkiff loved sewing and made a total of 40 handmade quilts for her family in her later years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sons-in-law, Bill Lortz and Bill Chandler; 8 brothers, Royal, William, Nick, Lloyd, Ora, Amos, Ezra and Floyd; three sisters, Lillie McKeel, Agnes Stenrude and Estel Williams.

She is survived by one brother, Johnny Pruett of Batesville; children, Wanda Lortz of Renton, Martha Chandler of Fenton, Charles Midkiff of Durrand, Mich., Marvin Midkiff of Rector, Brenda Jackson of Holly, Mich., Cloyce Midkiff of St. Louis; one son-in-law, Carl Jackson of Fenton; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Midkiff of Durrand, Mich., Sandy Midkiff of Rector; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation and service was held at 1 p.m. Sat. May 31, 2003 at McConnell Funeral Home in Fenton, with Pastor Samuel Fleming officiating.

Graveside service will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Rector at 2 p.m. Saturday June 7.
