A Piggott man died of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of highways 90 and 280 near Peach Orchard in western Clay County.

An Arkansas State Police spokesman said William Thrasher, 69, of 1628 Heritage Park Road, Piggott, was a passenger in a 1994 Ford Ranger driven by Robert Wagster, 63, also of Piggott, according to the police report.

The spokesman said the Ranger was northbound on Highway 90 when it collided with a 1992 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Jerry Dodd, 39, of Knobel, that was eastbound on Highway 280.

According to the spokesman, Dodd was being pursued by the Greene County Sheriff's Department and later by law enforcement officers from Randolph and Clay counties.

The spokesman said Dodd's vehicle hit a railroad crossing and went airborne and crossed Highway 90, where it was hit by the Ranger.

The spokesman said Dodd was transported to Lawrence County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to The Med in Memphis. Wagster was transported to St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

The investigating officer was Trooper Michael Exum.
