Irvin Verdane (I.V.) "Doc" Stahl, 76, of Rector died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at St. Bernards Regional Medical in Jonesboro from complications stemming from lung cancer surgery.

He was born March 8, 1927, in Greene County, the son of the late Alonzo Orabin and Wilma Bertie Ratledge Stahl. His father preceded him in death in 1981 and his mother in 1983.

He married Neala Mae Austin on Dec. 12, 1946, in Clarksville, Ark.

He was the retired owner/operator of S and S Gravel Company. He was a World War II Army veteran, a private pilot, 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Melrose, in 2001; three brothers, Gerald Stahl, George Stahl and Olan Stahl; a brother-in-law, Rev. Jim Holt; a nephew, Tony Michael Stahl; and a niece Robin (Stahl) Meadors.

He is survived by his wife, Neala Mae Austin Stahl of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Libby and Larry Combs and Martha and Noli Molina, all of Fayetteville, Ark., and Cindy and Jeff Barcome of Waterford, Mich.; one brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Orvil and Wanda Stahl of Salem, Ark.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Nova Holt of Braymer, Mo., and Frances and Rev. Denzil Stokes of Mountain View, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Melissa Melrose of Louisville, Ky., Clarissa Melrose of Rector, Shannon (Aaron) Nickell, Alon Terrell and Tony Terrell, all of Fayetteville, Mel (Laura) Combs of Memphis and Aiden Barcome of Waterford, Mich.; four great-grandchildren, Kylie Leasure, Dane Nickell, Knox Combs and Kennedy Combs; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Rev. Denzil Stokes officiating.

Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Perry Arrant, Cory Weir, Eddie Hollaway, David Pullin, Thomas Pullin and Dennis Stahl.
