D. Glenn Bennett

D. Glenn Bennett, 61, of Springfield, Mo., a native of Boydsville, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at his home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1942 in Boydsville, the son of Willie G. and Ruth E. Bennett.

He lived in Boydsville until the age of five, then moved to Bunker Hill, Ind. He graduated brom Bunker Hill High School in 1960.

He served in the United States Army and worked for Sears, Standard Grocery and Farmers Insurance. He owned and operated Bennett's Friendly Stop in Hennessey, Okla., from 1980-89, Bennett's Deli in Oklahoma City from 1988-91 and G&C Sales from 1991-98. In 1998 he moved to Springfield and worked as a mortgage loan officer for a number of years.

He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Hennessey, served as president for two years and vice-president for one year. He was a member of the Hennessey Lions Club and was a member of the Hardy Memorial Methodist Church in Texarkana, Texas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, O.J.

He is survived by his wife, Chris, whom he married May 29, 1993, of the home; five children and their spouses, Vic and Kris of Grand Rapid, Mich., Bryan and Patty of Evans of Colorado, Kim of Kokomo, Ind., Dawn and Larry of Gilbert, Ariz., and Scotty of the home; nine grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, D.L. and Helen of Hot Springs Village, Russell and Wanda of Kokomo, Ind.; one sister, Faye, of Portland, Ore.; three aunts, Ellen Moore of Munford, Ala.,Edna E. Melton of Mammoth Spring and Carl Casey of Fairdealing, Mo.; one uncle, Darwin of Rector, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel in Springfield with Chaplain Jack Betts officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hazelwood Cemetery.
