He was born March 28, 1909, in Boydsville to the late Jesse Simpson and Catherine Clements Simpson.
He was a farmer, a life-long member of the community and a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church.
He was married Aug. 20, 1932, to Ruby Parks Simpson, who preceded him in death.
He also was preceded in death by six brothers, William David, Albert, Hubert, Charlie, Shelley and Clarence Simpson, and two sisters, Ruby Layne and Rosie Simmons.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Velius and Shirley Simpson of Rector; one daughter and son-in-law, Lou and Onis Bateman of Ellendale, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Richard Simpson of Rector, David Simpson of Spring Branch, Texas, and Lou Ann Goad and Lara McKinley, both of Bartlett, Tenn., and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Eddie Gene Wright officiating.
Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Richard Simpson, Richard Goad, Todd McKinley, Danny Simpson, Tom Simmons and Melvin Kirklin.
