Recreation priorities reviewed at meeting

Thursday, July 1, 2004

A public meeting to prioritize projects for a recreation grant was held Thursday night at Rector City Hall.

The meeting was sponsored by the Rector Parks and Recrecation Commission in preparation for submitting an outdoor recreation grants application to the Department of Parks, Travel and Tourism.

Those assembled listed a parking lot, skate park, water park and coverings for bleachers as items to be considered for the grant.

The commission will meet soon to determine which items to include in the application.

Commmission members present for the meeting were Keith Hill, Leland Blackshare, Trudie Speer, Don Pickler and James Huckabay. Also present were mayor Ron Kemp and alderman David Freeman.

The application will be submitted later this summer with the state agency. The city currently is working on a grant received last year from the state, primarily for making handicap-accessible improvements to the park. Also recently received was a grant for a walking trail to be constructed in Memorial Park.
