There was a large crowd on hand Thursday for the ribbon-cutting and opening of the new Bert E. Sigsby Senior Wellness Center in Rector.

Family members present for the ribbon-cutting were Mary Lee Sigsby, wife of the late Bert Sigsby, community leader and long-time chairman of the Rector Housing Authority; son Steven Sigsby and his wife Lark; grandson Marshall Sigsby, and sister Glenna Bookout.

The project is a joint effort of the Rector Housing Authority, the City of Rector, the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, Black River Area Development and the Arkansas Dept. of Economic Development.

The city received a major grant from ADED to assist in the construction of the new facility, which clearly already is being enjoyed by many seniors at its convenient location on East First Street in Rector.

The BRAD agency will be in charge of operating the facility, including serving meals to seniors on a daily basis.
