Lady Hounds suffer road loss
The Marmaduke Senior Lady Greyhounds faced the daunting task of traveling to Pocahontas to face the powerful Lady Redskins on Monday, Nov. 8.
The Lady Hounds were defeated by the talented team from Pocahontas, 77-29.
The Lady Redskins took control early, leading 22-6 after one quarter of action. Pocahontas was ahead 44-14 at halftime. The score was 67-19 Pocahontas after the third quarter.
The Lady Redskins had 12 players score on the evening.
"Give Pocahontas a lot of credit," Marmaduke head coach Spencer Hoffman said. "They have a really good basketball team."
The tough loss has not broken the spirits of the Lady Hounds.
"I'm proud of the way the kids have practiced since the game," Hoffman said. "They've been positive and worked hard."
Brooke Smith was the leading scorer for Marmaduke with 10. Also scoring were Lindsey Hickson 9, Danielle Bateman 6, Jade Brinkley 2 and Amanda White 2.
Brin Seagraves scored 13 for Pocahontas. Deedee Barre scored 12. Laura Throesch added 11.
The Junior Lady Greyhounds fell to the Junior Lady Redskins by the score of 43-29 in their game.
Pocahontas fired off out of the gate, taking a 13-2 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter followed suit, ending with the Junior Lady hounds trailing, 25-13. Marmaduke was 36-18 after three.
The duo of Megan Willbanks and Autumn Wren were problematic for the Junior Lady Hounds, as the two combined to score 25 for the Junior Lady Redskins.
"Pocahontas has an excellent junior team," Hoffman said.
"I thought we showed improvement," Hoffman said. "We competed real well."
"I can tell we've improved since the last time we played," Hoffman said.
Shawna Spurling and Taylor Grayham each scored 10 for Marmaduke. Also scoring were Crissy Crawford 5, Sarah Potter 4, Amber Haynes 3, Jessica Allison 2, Kelsey Reagan 2 and Jamie Ricker 1.
The Lady Hounds will host Valley View on Thursday, Nov. 18.
