Lady Greyhounds downed by Piggott
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds fell to the NEA runnerup Piggott Lady Mohawks, 59-28, in action at Marmaduke on Monday, Jan. 17.
Piggott led the whole way --14-7, 29-14 and 59-28.
Piggott attacked the post all game, using their size and depth advantages to wear down the Lady Hounds. The Lady Mohawks were active on the offensive glass, getting many second chance points.
"They pounded the ball inside on us," Marmaduke coach Spencer Hoffman said. "They really hurt us on the offensive boards. They got second and third chances all night. We didn't do as good a job keeping them off the boards here as we did at their place. That was the difference in the game."
Brooke Smith paced the Lady Hounds with 11 points. Other scorers were Jade Brinkley 9, Danielle Bateman 4, Leah Newsom 3 and Lindsey Hickson 1.
Lauren Hickson led Piggott with 14 points.
The Junior Lady Greyhounds were victorious in their game with Piggott, winning 58-25. Marmaduke led after each period -- 10-6, 25-13 and 41-21.
The Junior Lady Hounds held a small lead early and continued to build it up during the contest. Marmaduke outscored Piggott 33-12 in the second half.
"In the third quarter, we really extended the lead by increasing our defensive pressure, Hoffman said. "We caused some turnovers that led to easy baskets. We came out and played well the whole game."
Taylor Graham led Marmaduke with 13 points. Shawna Spurling and Crissy Crawford finished with 10 points each.
Keena Dennis scored nine for Piggott.
The Lady Hounds will travel to Bay on Thursday, Jan. 20.
