Herman H. Burton

Herman H. Burton, 80, of Coulterville, Ill., formerly of Rector, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, in the Sparta Community Hospital at Sparta, Ill.

He was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Steele, Mo., to the late Sam and Viola (Ettington) Burton and was married March 18, 1947, in Piggott to Wanda Eagle, who survives.

Mr. Burton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and worked as a mechanic at the Mobil Station in Coulterville. He was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church and of the Coulterville Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Mel Burton, Paul McClung and Harv Burton; one sister, Freda Fowler; one grandson, Scott Burton, and one great-grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; four sons, David Burton, Ralph Burton, Keith Burton and Steve and Vicki Burton, all of Coulterville; one daughter and son-in-law, Danna and Bill McDougal of Sparta; one brother, Jim McClung of Coulterville, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Coulterville with Rev. Ron Mazander officiating. Burial was in the Burton Family Cemetery in Coulterville with Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
