Riverside's Garrett Weaver buried eight three-pointers in the game, finishing with 28 points. As a team, the Rebels made 15 treys on the night.
"We've got to do a better job of getting a hand in their face," Rector coach Mark Manchester said. "You can't let anybody shoot like that. Riverside's a very good team, but we've got to do a better job of sticking their shooters than what we did."
Riverside got out of the gate quickly, leading 27-16 after the opening frame. Rector trailed 41-28 at the half and 59-44 through three.
Jackie Graham finished with 18 to lead Rector. Derek Wyss added 10 in the loss. Other Rector scorers were Blake McCarroll 9, Justin Duke 7, Daniel Hester 5 and Garrett Evers 1.
Glen Graham notched 16 for Riverside. Casey Hook and Cody Richardson added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The loss drops Rector to 11- 7 overall and 6-4 in 2A-3 league play.
Junior squad downed
The Junior Cougars were felled 32-15 in their meeting with Riverside. Riverside led 7- 5 after the first and 18-11 at intermission, but outscored the young Cougars 14-4 in the third to take a 52-15 lead into the fourth.
Cody Hager led Rector with 15 points. Tyler Kirklin added five points in the loss, while Kirk Horton netted a point.
Seniors pummel Maynard
The Cougars rolled over Maynard last Tuesday, 83-59. Rector started off scorching, taking a 23-8 lead after the first frame. The advantage grew to 40-24 at the half and 63-38 through three.
Graham finished with a gamehigh 28 to lead Rector. Wyss notched a double-double, scoring 20 and pulling down 11 rebounds. Duke added 15 in the win. Also scoring for Rector were McCarroll 8, Hester 5, Garrett Evers 5, Blake Evers 2 and Clinton Haley 2.
Maynard was never in the contest, despite having three players finish with double-doubles. Blake Davis led the Tigers with 20 points and 10 boards. Alec Shore posted 12 and 10, while Gavin Francis had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Juniors top Maynard
The Junior Cougars squeaked by with a 36-34 win over Maynard Tuesday. After leading 9-1 going into the second frame, Rector found themselves behind 16-15 at the half. The young Cougars reclaimed the advantage, 26-23, heading into the fourth.
Kirklin led the way with 16 points. Cody Hager added eight in the win. Other Rector scorers were Horton 5, Brandon Stevens 4, Caleb Holcomb 2 and Daniel Blackshare 1.
The Cougars will be playing host to Earle Friday night for homecoming. The junior boys will start the evening off with a 6 p.m. game. Homecoming festivities will follow the junior squad, with the senior boys closing out the evening.
