Cougars blast CRA
The Cougars came away with an impressive 8-3 win over CRA on the road Monday.
Tyler Small stood out for Rector, pitching a complete game en route to picking up the win. Small also put forth a good effort at the plate, blasting a homerun to help his cause.
CRA scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early advantage, but the Cougars would fight back immediately.
Cody Loveless hit an RBI double and Alex Roofe drove in a pair with a double of his own, as the Cougars took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second. Rector wouldn't look back from that point on, as the boys in blue never relinquished their lead.
Loveless drove in another run in the top of the third. Logan Buck notched an RBI single of his own, as Rector enjoyed a 5-2 advantage. Buck struck again in the fifth and sixth innings, and Small homered in the sixth, as Rector moved ahead 8-2.
CRA scored a run on an error in the bottom of the sixth, but it was not enough to overcome the echoes of the blue thunder the Cougar bats had produced on the afternoon.
"Tyler Small had a strong performance for us," coach Nate Henderson said. "He's really doing a good job for us. He's keeping it in the strike zone and forcing the other team to come at him."
Buck led Rector at the plate, going 3-5 with three RBIs. Loveless was 2-4 with two RBIs on the day. Also hitting were Roofe 2-5 with 2 RBIs, Small 2-5 with a homerun, Dalton Shaw 2-4 and James Bradshaw 1-4.
The Cougars' game at home against Turrell on Tuesday was cancelled due to rain. Rector hoped to make up a missed conference game on Wednesday (today), but the weather has made that impossible, as well. As thunderstorms moved into the area on Tuesday, Thursday's scheduled contest against Osceola is doubtful.
