She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, quilting and sewing. She was a Bible scholar, a long-time Sunday school teacher at the Hickoria Missionary Baptist Church and was a current member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church of Corning.
She was married to Leon Earnest "Fuzz" Cate on March 6, 1952, and he preceded her in death March 29, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Nora Poyner; and brothers J.W. and Webster Poyner.
She was survived by three sons, Phillip Cate of Blytheville and Steven Cate and Jonathan Cate of Corning; three daughters, Sherry Walley and Ginger Hewett of Corning and Sheila Sellmeyer of Knobel; two brothers, Denzil Poyner and Sonnie Poyner; a sister, Judy Poyner; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Chadwick and Doug Birch officiating. Burial was in the Post Oak Cemetery at McDougal.
The arrangements were handled by the Ermert Funeral Home of Corning.
