Betty Marie Cate

Betty Marie Cate, 74, of Corning, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born Oct. 5, 1933, in Palatka, Ark., to the late Johnnie Poyner and Nora (Collins) Poyner, she was a homemaker, a 50-year member of Hickoria Missionary Baptist Church and a current member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Corning, where she was a Bible Scholar and Sunday School teacher. Her hobbies were flower gardening, quilting and sewing.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leon "Fuzz" Cate, in March 2002, and two brothers, J.W. and Webster Poyner.

Survivors include three sons, Phillip Cate of Blytheville, Steven Cate and Jonathan Cate, both of Corning; three daughters, Sherry Walley of Corning, Sheila Sellmeyer of Knobel and Ginger Hewett of Corning; two brothers, Denzil Poyner and Sonnie Poyner; one sister, Judy Poyner, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with Mike Chadwick and Doug Birch officiating. Burial was in Post Oak Cemetery in McDougal with Ermert Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
