Greenway picnic preview

The annual Greenway picnic, to benefit the Mitchell Cemetery, will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, in that community with a full day of activities scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.

Following the opening ceremonies, and speeches by area politicians, the first of several contests and pageants will be held on the stage. The first event, at 9:30 a.m., will be the baby contest for boys and girls ages birth through 12 months. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the entry fee is $20. At 11 a.m. the toddler contests will be held for boys and girls ages one to three years, and the attire is informal. The registration will get underway at 10 a.m. and the entry fee is $20 per contestant. Those wanting more information may contact Della Jackson at 870 598-2136.

At 2 p.m. that afternoon the Little Miss Greenway pageant will be held for little girls ages four through eight and the attire will be Sunday dress. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. and the entry fee is $20 for each contestant. Those wanting more information may contact Angel Moore at 870 598-8003.

The Junior Miss Greenway pageant is set for 4 p.m. that day, and will include girls ages nine to 12 and the attire is Sunday dress. The entry fee is $20 per contestant, and those wanting more information may call Barbara Collier at 870 598-7311.

The Miss Greenway pageant is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Aug. 4, and pre-registration is required. The pageant is open to young ladies ages 13-18, contestants will wear formal attire and the entry fee is $20. Practice for the pageant will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1 on the stage at the picnic grounds and those wishing to register, or obtain more information, may call Barbara Collier at 870 598-7311.

The annual picnic will also include the usual entertainment, food, games, rides and an auction of donated items. The activities will be going on throughout the day on Aug. 2 at the picnic grounds in

Greenway.
