A $100 hamburger

Thursday, July 31, 2008
While people in Northeast Arkansas are tightening their grocery belts, I was surprised to hear that elsewhere customers are ordering $100 burgers.

Yes, it's true.

Neil Ungerleider has researched and has written about the costly burgers.

McGuire's Irish Pub in Pensacola, Florida, features a $100 Grand Burger. However, the Pub also has cheaper versions, a $27 burger or a $32 burger. It's your choice.

At Bistro Moderne in New York, you can order a double truffle burger for $150.

In Las Vegas at Rossini's, they offer a tasty burger for a more reasonable $60 bucks.

Olde Homestead Steakhouse, a New York restaurant, offers an $81 Kobe beef burger with tator tots too.

For a high-end burger, there's a $175 Richard Nouveau Burger on Wall Street for a mere $175. It features eatable gold flakes and hash browns.

All across the country, the burgers are catching on with customers. Some of the more costly "high end" burgers are featured with Asian pears, sirloin, black truffles and mushrooms

For a cheaper version, you can get $22 burgers at Spago's in Beverly Hills or at Circa 55, also in Beverly Hills. Both burgers are touted as among the best, Ungerleider said.

At Burger Bento Box in New York, there's a $30 burger.

No, they aren't your two for $3 Hardee cheeseburger special. And they aren't a Big & Tasty one dollar McDonald burger either. Or a $3 Burger King Whopper.

Now for high-rollers who aren't concerned with price, there's a $5,000 Kobe beef FleuBurger in Las Vegas. Naturally, it comes with wine and you can bring one guest. The Palms in Las Vegas has the ultimate combo with wine also. It costs a mere $6,000.

Frankly, I'm not sure I would even spring for one of those cheap $22 burgers.

My mindset is with Hardees thickburger with fries. And a senior citizen discount.

It's true there's a disparity between rich and poor

The poorer are struggling to make mortgage payments, buy a tank of gas, and keep food on the table.

Not to mention medical care which many cannot afford.

Yes, Senator McCain and Senator Obama, we need change all right.

And we need it sooner than later.

Anybody for a hot dog?
