Clay County pageants set

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

The annual Clay County pageants for 2008, held in conjunction with the annual fair, will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 in the commercial exhibit building at the fairgrounds.

The attire for Miss Clay County and Mrs. Clay County will be formal pageant wear -- the attire for all the other pageants will be Sunday dress. Organizers stressed that no pageant dresses, sportswear or Hollywood Babes would be allowed. The entry fee for Miss Clay County and the Mrs. Clay County pageants is $25, all the other pageants have a $20 fee for entrants.

The Baby Mr. and Miss. Clay County pageants, for boys and girls ages birth to 12 months, will be held at 10 a.m. with the boys and girls competing separately. At 10:45 a.m. the Toddler Mr. and Miss Clay County pageant, for kids ages 13-24 months, will be held with the boys and girls each competing in their own contest. Those are the only two contests in which boys will be competing.

At 1 p.m. the Tiny Miss Clay County pageant will be held for girls ages two to four years, followed at 2 p.m. by the Little Miss Clay County pageant for girls ages five to eight. At 3 p.m. the Young Junior Miss Clay County pageant will be held for girls ages nine to 12, followed at 4 p.m. by the Junior Miss Clay County pageant for young ladies ages 13-15.

At 5 p.m. the Miss Clay County pageant will be held for young ladies, ages 16-21, that have never been married. The pageant is open only to residents of Clay County and organizers added there will be no practice and no scholarship this year. The entry fee for the Miss Clay County pageant is $25.

The final pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. as Mrs. Clay County will be crowned for 2008. The Mrs. Clay County pageant is open only to residents of Clay County and contestants can be any age, but must be married or divorced. Pageant wear is required and there will be a practice at 6:30 Friday, Sept. 5. The entry fee for Mrs. Clay County is $25 and should be paid at the practice.

Organizers also noted that some pageants may start late due to a larger number of contestants in a previous pageant, but that no pageant will start early.
