He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Java; sisters, Dorothy Heidbreder and Emma Lou Morgan; brother, Leslie Russell, and infant sister and brother, Flora and Harold.
He attended Piggott High School and later joined the U.S. Air Force. After several years he returned to college at Southern Illinois University and later continued his education and received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Michigan in 1955. In the years to come he would teach college, do research, clinical work and write. He was a psychologist at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and afterward retired and moved to Florida.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Carmen Russell of Creve Coeur, Mo.; granddaughter, Stephanie Shoten of Las Vegas, Nev.; great-granddaughter, Allison, and great-grandson, Andrew; brother, Lloyd Russell of Piggott; sister-in-law, Anna Rae Russell of Corning; brother-in-law, Gerald Morgan of Searcy, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Crainville Baptist Church in Crainville, Ill.
