He was a member of the Church of Christ, was a veteran, worked for years as an ironworker and retired as a security guard.
He was married to the late Loma George, and she preceded him in death. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, George Christopher Hawk.
He is survived by, and will be missed by, two sons, Michael Edward Byrd and Timothy Ray Hawk, both of St. Louis; a brother, Don Haynes of Holcomb; six sisters, Veda McKay and husband Harry of Beebe, Linda Wright and husband Hershel of Marmaduke, Brenda Davis of Marmaduke, Maddie Shipman and husband Lynn of Piggott, Laura Rutz of Kennett and Rose Duncan and husband Donnie of Kennett; six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 6, at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery at Marmaduke with Irby Funeral Home of Marmaduke in charge of the arrangements. Those wishing to post online condolences may do so at irbyfuneralhome.com
