Ernest J. Hollis Jr., 74, of Rector died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born Jan. 20, 1934, to the late Ernest and Tessie (Cosby) Hollis. He had retired as a barber after 46 years of service to his customers. He was in the Navy four years, serving on the U.S.S. Iowa during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Francis and Denver Hollis, and one sister, Mildred (Hollis) Tiller.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Hollis of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Danny Rodgers of Pocahontas and Michele and Stephen Crancer of Rector; four sisters, Alma Crossfield of Piggott, Joyce Hobbs of Sikeston, Mo., Pat Edwards of Kansas City, Mo., and Margaret Bensiuk of Daytona Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Tara and Curt Young, Ryan Rodgers, Hayden, Marla, Landen and Grayson Crancer; one great-granddaughter, Julia Young, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the chapel. Interment will be in Piggott Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Springs Methodist Church or the Knob Community Center.
