Lee J. Holifield

Lee J. Holifield, 81, of Pollard, died Monday, October 13, 2008, at his home.

He was born October 6, 1927, at Crockett, and was the son of the late Thomas and Vernia (Cole) Holifield.

He was united in marriage to Loretta Holifield on October 6, 1945.

His infant son, Gary Lee Holifield and his brother, Junior Holifield preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Loretta Holifield of the home; his children, Lindell Holifield and wife Jackie of Mountain Grove, Mo., Linda Cook and husband Gene of California, Mo., and Scott Holifield and David Lauber of St. Louis,; five grandchildren, Christine Coffman and husband Shane, James Holifield, Kurt Holifield, David Cook and wife Crystal, and Dan Cook; two great-grandchildren, Brock and Cade Coffman; three brothers, Donnie Holifield and wife Vicki of Pollard, Ray Holifield of Pollard, and Doyle Holifield and wife Audrey of Dexter along with many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Holifield's life was committed to work in support of his family and the community. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific, and following World War II returned to the Piggott area before taking his family to St. Louis for approximately 25 years. He returned in 1978, and spent his later years building homes in Piggott, raising cattle, gardening and caring for the Cummins Chapel Cemetery. He was a member of the Cummins Chapel Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Cummins Chapel Cemetery at Pollard. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will get underway at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The family suggests that memorial tributes may be made to Cummins Chapel Cemetery.
