Born May 10, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Daniel and Eleanor Reid, he was retired from the Air Force and a retired Jacksonville police officer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and was proud to be the first generation American. His parents were from Ireland.
Also preceding him in death were one brother, James Reid; one granddaughter, Megan Dunn, and one great-granddaughter, Micalia Wall.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Shepard Reid of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dana Kaye and Ron Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo., Beverly Jean and Jeff Ritter of Michigan and Elizabeth Ann and Rory Wentz of Phoenix, Ariz.; one step-daughter, Pamela Dunn of Jonesboro; two step-sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cindy Shepard of Rector and Michael and Christi Shepard of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector with Bro. Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4556.
Pallbearers were Russell Blanchard, William Blanchard, Perry Blanchard, Ron Blanchard, Ed Blanchard and Matt Dement.
