O.J.Barker, 78, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Rector, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at the V.A. Hospital in Detroit.

Born July 28, 1930, in Rector to the late Oscar James Barker Sr. and Hettie Massey, he was a veteran of the Korean War, retired from the railroad and of the Baptist faith.

Also preceding him in death were a sister, Sue Cox, and a brother-in-law, Joe Gipson.

Survivors include two daughters, Ginger and Farren Young of Rector and Susan Liles of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Wilson Cox; one sister, Phyllis Gipson of Rector; nine grandchildren, Marki and Randy McMillin, Tarah and Kendall Green, Maeghan Young, Farren Young II, Ashley and Scott Thompson, Stephen Barker Liles, Andrew Liles, Rebekah Liles and Brent Liles, and seven great-grandchildren, Kirk Young-Horton, Natalie Varner, Jake McMillin, Byron Young-Baugh, Tret Green, Chloe Young-Baugh and Carter McMillin.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Ardell Polk officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Farren Young II, Stephen Liles, Andrew Liles, Brent Liles, Kirk Young-Horton and Randy McMillin.
