Former Rector High School basketball standout Allan K. Pruett, considered by many to be one of the best players ever to take the floor in the Rector gymnasium, died Saturday, Dec. 6, in San Antonio, Texas.

He was born June, 8, 1948, in Jonesboro, but was raised in Rector. He was a graduate of Rector High School, where he was an All-American basketball player and graduated in 1971 from Arkansas State University, where he was an All-Conference basketball star.

He spent 18 years as a special education vocational teacher in San Antonio Independent School District. Prior to his school career, he held various sales positions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Natalie Pruett, and nephew, Brett Pruett.

He is survived by his wife, Belinda Licea; two daughters, Kim Cargill of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kelley Evans of McKinney, Texas; three grandchildren; one brother, Joe Pruett and wife, Jean of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; one nephew, Burt Pruett of San Antonio, and many other loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Porter Loring Chapel in San Antonio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rector High School Hall of Fame Foundation, 604 W. Fifth Street, Rector, AR 72461.
