Garland "Bud" Hurst

Garland "Bud" Hurst, 83, of Piggott, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in the Piggott Community Hospital. He was born March 12, 1925, in St. Louis to Edmond Garland and Leona Hurst.

He was united in marriage to Joline Holcomb on July 7, 1947, and the couple had five children.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Edmond and Leona Voght Hurst, and one son, Garland Hurst.

He is survived by his wife, Joline Hurst of Piggott; two sons, Michael R. Hurst of Piggott and Rick Hurst and wife Lilliana of Poplar Bluff; two daughters, Belinda Grant of St. Francis and Cecilia Whittemore and husband Donald of Warren, Ark.; daughter-in-law, Susan Hurst of Little Rock; a brother, Edmond "Jr." Hurst and friend Wilma Whitlock of Paragould; a sister, Verna Lee Thomas and husband Richard of LaHabra, Calif.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Danny Self officiating. Burial was in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Edmond Hurst, Shannon Grant, Joe David Whittemore, Robert Whittemore, Daniel Whittemore and Nicholas Whittemore.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Assocation.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was charged with the arrangements.
