Welburn Gettings

Welburn L. Gettings, 85, of Piggott died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born June 19, 1923, in Piggott the son of the late John and Claire (Vaughn) Gettings. He was united in marriage to Martha Bankston on Dec. 30, 1978.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Belinda; five sisters, Lorene, Alice, Katherine, Betty and Martha, and three brothers, Melvin, Charlie and Lavell.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Gettings; his children, John, Carolyn Sue and Marie; four sisters, Narene, Maggie Sue, Christene and June; and a brother, J.D., along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 15, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Dennis Templeton officiating. Burial was in the Cummins Chapel Cemetery near Pollard. Pallbearers were Ron Barrett, Brice Gore, Rodney Young, Ricky Gettings, Bud Beecher and Roy Dean.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was charged with the arrangements.
