He was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Kennett, Mo., and was the son of the late Charles W. and Lucy Viola (Case) Champ.
He was married May 9, 1943, to Dovie Scott.
He attended high school in Arbyrd, Mo., and graduated from the University of Missouri. He taught agriculture at the V.A. School and also was a principal for Southeast Elementary in the Piggott School District. He also farmed and was a rural letter carrier.
He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Bernita Champ, Betty Sue Norris and Opal Branum.
Survivors include his wife, Dovie Champ of Piggott; his daughter, Mary Margaret Mann of Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Charles William Champ and wife Tatyana of Statesboro, Ga., and Steven Alan Champ and wife Katherine of Piggott; five grandchildren, Tami Eppard and husband Patrick, Shana Greening and husband Derek, Kerry Champ and wife Jessica, Brett Mann and wife Amanda, along with Jennifer Gibson and husband Matt; seven great-grandchildren, Ella, Kaleb, Katelyn, Kegan, Patience, Alex and Dillon; his brother, James Champ and wife Verba of North Carolina; his sister, JoNell Hopkins of Illinois, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 3, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens and Loy Culver officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kerry Champ, Brett Mann, Patrick Eppard, Derek Greening, Matt Gibson and Ray Norris. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements.
