The Piggott Lady Mohawks gained a rare conference sweep Monday night at PHS, beating the Brookland Lady Bearcats decisively in both junior and senior girls action. For both teams it marked just their second win of the year, as the two squads continue to show improvement for Coach Natalie Stricklin.

Lady Mohawks vs Brookland

The Piggott senior girls, coming off a disappointing performance at Corning last Friday night, came out strong and dominated the Bearcats throughout the contest. Jumping out to the early lead The Tribe enjoyed a 16-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter, and were up 32-19 by the halftime break. The Mohawks then went on to outscore the visitors 12-3 in the third and took a 44-22 lead into the final frame as they cruised to a 58-35 win.

Leading the way for the Lady Mohawks was Hillary French with 18 points, while Michelle Greany added 17. Ajax Simpson paced the Bearcats with 19 points in the loss.

With the win the Mohawks moved to 2-10 on the season, and 2-6 in 3A-3 conference play. They're scheduled to host the Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs, the team they beat for their first win, this Thursday, Jan. 15 at PHS.

Junior Lady Mohawks vs Brookland

The Piggott junior girls continue to improve, and got a big game in the paint Monday night, as they notched their second win of the year with a victory over Brookland 38-34.

Playing in the first of four games Monday afternoon and evening, the junior girls jumped out to an early lead on the Bearcats and held on down the stretch. As the contest got underway the Mohawks used their size advantage to post a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, and found themselves up 17-11 at intermission. The junior Tribe went on to outscore the visitors 10-7 in the third quarter, and withstood a late rally to post the 38-34 win.

Leading the way for the Mohawks was Janna Corter with 10 points, while Mallory Wright had nine and Allison Gurley finished with eight. Coach Stricklin also noted the performance of Hallie Vannada, who had a total of 13 rebounds in the win. Samantha Flowers paced the Bearcat attack with eight points in the loss.

With the win the junior girls move to 2-10 overall, and 2-6 in 3A-3 conference play. They're scheduled to host the Tuckerman junior Lady Bulldogs this Thursday night.
