Rector led throughout: 17-10; 28-23 and 38-35.
The game came down to fundamentals in the end, with Rector connecting on 10 of 11 free throws in the final quarter.
Three Lady Cougars scored in double figures on the evening. Crissy Crawford notched 17 points to lead the way. Junior Stephanie DeMent had the hot hand from beyond the arc, knocking down five three-pointers for her 15 points. Hillary Calhoun notched a double-double, scoring 14 points and securing 13 rebounds. Other scorers were Rebecca Dodd 9, Sarah Hester 7 and Rhoda Classen 2.
Holly Dempsey led BIC with 22 points.
Junior girls downed
The Junior Lady Cougars lost their meeting with BIC, 41-28.
Rector found themselves in trouble early, trailing 12-2 after the first quarter. The girls were able to cut the deficit to 18-11 at the half before trailing 29-19 through three quarters.
Allison Duncan led the way with 13 points. Also scoring for Rector were Amanda Bradford 6, Heather Scott 6, Kelsey Wynn 2 and Kelly Fowler 1.
Riverside game
The senior girls game at Riverside Thursday was cancelled due to an emergency situation involving the family member of a player.
The junior girls came away with a 35-30 win.
It was a close one throughout, with Rector holding small leads after each frame: 12-11; 22-17 and 26-21.
Heather Scott and Duncan finished with 10 points each for the Junior Lady Cougars. Also scoring were Bradford 8, Wynn 4 and Jesse Scott 3.
Rector is scheduled to host Cross County starting at 6 p.m. Thursday. Marked Tree is slated to visit the Lady Cougars beginning at 5 p.m. Monday night.
