Soybean meeting

The Clay County Extension Service will host their 2009 Rice and Soybean Production Meeting and Ag Expo beginning at 8 a.m. with sign-in Monday, Feb. 2. The event, which is being held at the M.B. Ainley Community Center in Corning, will include a full program of speakers and booths set up by various agri-businesses.

During the sign-in period, coffee and doughnuts will be served and those attending will have a chance to visit sponsor booths. The program for the event gets underway at 8:20 a.m. and will end at 12:15 p.m. with lunch, which is provided by Harold Bauschlicher.

The speakers and some of their topics include:

Debbie Baker, county extension agent for family and consumer science; Scott Stiles, extension economist on risk management marketing strategies; Dr. Jeremy Ross, extension agronomist for soybeans with a soybean production update; Cliff Coker, extension plant pathologist with a soybean disease update; Dr. Bob Scott, extension weed specialist with a rice and soybean weed control update; Dr. Scott Monfort, extension plant pathologist with a rice disease update; Dr. Chuck Wilson, extension agronomist for rice with a rice production update, and Ron Baker, county extension agent for agriculture with recommended practices for poultry litter in row crops.
