Repairs underway for phone, cable

Friday, February 6, 2009

Last week's ice storm is still affecting the area through power outages, loss of phone and cable services.

According to NewWave Communications general manager Ed Gargas, the cable provider is aware of cuts to its fiberoptic lines coming into Piggott. These lines feed the service into the bulk of northeast Arkansas, resulting in the loss of cable for most homes, even those few with their power restored.

"We hope to have those cuts repaired Wednesday," Gargas said. "From there, we will be able to further assess the situation."

Gargas also said once power is restored to the area, NewWave also will be able to gather more information and learn where further assistance is needed.

Gargas assured local customers NewWave is working diligently to have service restored as soon as possible.

If problems persist, local customers are encouraged to contact NewWave at 1-888-883-9928.

As far as phone service, at this time information from CenturyTel is limited. A recorded message on the company's repair service hotline states it is aware of the conditions in this area and is currently at work trying to restore phone lines.

Persons may report a loss of service through a working phone line at 1-800-824-2877.
