Rector trailed throughout: 16-12; 30-19 and 45-31.
Coty Banning had a big night for the Cougars, scoring 20 points and tearing down 13 rebounds. Justin Duke notched 13 in the loss. Also scoring were Tyler Kirklin 6, Blake McCarroll 3, Chris Tripp 2, Zac Trayler 2 and Kirk Horton 1.
Turrell was led by Theo Turner's 14 and Travis Selvy's 12.
Juniors fall
The Junior Cougars were downed 58-30 in their meeting with Turrell.
Rector trailed throughout: 23-8; 32-16 and 46-24.
Mitchell Weber led Rector with 11 points. Also scoring were Brandon Stevens 7, Dillon Shelton 5, Daniel White 3, Ben Petty 2 and A.J. Hager 2.
Loss to BIC
Rector fell to host Buffalo Island Central 55-43 Friday night in Monette.
BIC led throughout the game: 18-14; 29-21 and 40-38.
McCarroll finished with 14 to lead Rector. Kirklin added 12 in the loss. Also scoring were Banning 9 and Duke 8.
Juniors downed
The Junior Cougars just missed an upset in their meeting with BIC, falling 43-41.
Rector trailed by as many as 12 on the night, but climbed to within striking range going into the fourth quarter, trailing 33-30.
Stevens led the way with 11 on the night. Also scoring were Dustin Sparks 6, Petty 5, White 3, Weber 2 and Hager 2.
Back in Action
The Cougars returned to the hardwood on Tuesday, Feb. 5 with a game against host Riverside. The evening concluded with a 65-53 loss for Rector.
The Cougars were hindered by a terrible second quarter wherein they managed just three points and saw a 16-16 tie after the first frame replaced with a 31-19 halftime deficit. Riverside led 50-42 heading into the final frame.
McCarroll led Rector with 16 points. Duke and Kirklin added 14 and 12, respectively. Also scoring were Horton 4, Banning 4, Clinton Haley 2 and Trayler 1.
Blake Hogan finished with 18 to lead Riverside.
Junior boys
The Junior Cougars were on the wrong side of a 43-34 decision in their meeting with Riverside.
Stevens finished with 19 points to lead Rector. Also scoring were Weber 5, Shelton 5, Hager 3 and Sparks 2.
The Cougars are slated to visit Marmaduke this week for an evening of basketball delight which will feature both junior and senior boys and girls teams. The games are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. From there, both boys squads will be competing in the junior and senior district tournaments at Caraway beginning this Saturday.
