Though the game was tightly-contested, Rector managed to lead throughout: 18-12; 34-30 and 51-44.
Four Lady Cougars scored in double figures on the night. Hillary Calhoun notched a game-high 21 points to lead the way. Stephanie DeMent added 17, while Crissy Crawford and Rebecca Dodd had 12 and 11, respectively. Destinei Heathcott had three and Rhoda Classen scored two for Rector.
"We came out and played pretty well," Rector coach Mark Manchester said. "We did a good job of moving the ball around and getting everybody involved."
The Lady Cougars will face top-seeded East Poinsett County at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Junior Girls
The Junior Lady Cougars were eliminated from postseason play Monday, as they fell to EPC, 41-30, in the second round of the junior district tournament at Caraway.
A tough start to the second half put Rector at a disadvantage. The Junior Lady Cougars went into intermission trailing 20-11 and were able to manage just one point in the third quarter, falling behind 35-12 heading into the fourth.
Jesse Scott finished with eight points to lead Rector. Also scoring were Heather Scott 7, Allison Duncan 6, Kelsey Wynn 5 and Kelly Fowler 4.
Rector advanced to the second round Saturday with a 50-29 win over Marmaduke. Rector led 14-8 after the first quarter, before building up a 28-10 halftime lead. The Junior Lady Cougars were out in front 39-24 going into the final frame.
Wynn led Rector with 10 points. Also scoring were Heather Scott 9, Amanda Bradford 8, Jesse Scott 7, Fowler 7, Duncan 4, Kaitlyn Essman 4 and Casey Hollis 2.
Whitley Boggs led Marmaduke with 10 points. Also scoring for the Junior Lady Greyhounds were Caitlin Robinson 8, Alexus Jones 6, Cally Price 3, Rachel Vangilder 2 and Bethany Banning 2.
Loss to Marmaduke
The Lady Cougars couldn't find their rhythm Thursday, falling to host Marmaduke, 65-36.
The Lady 'Hounds led throughout: 11-6; 29-11 and 49-31.
Calhoun led Rector with 14 points. Also scoring for the Lady Cougars were DeMent 8, Crawford 7, Dodd 3, Classen 2 and Brittany Sharp 2.
Chelsea Drope had the hot hand for Marmaduke, pacing all scorers with 28 points in the win. Megan Nolen added 13 for the Lady 'Hounds. Other scorers were Rachel Morton 8, Tristin Clayton 7, Mercedez Jones 5, Morgan Hatcher 2 and Kalinda Hampton 2.
Junior Girls
The Junior Lady Cougars claimed a 45-28 win over Marmaduke Thursday.
Rector led the whole night: 17-9; 22-14 and 32-22.
Duncan finished with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Heather Scott added 10 in the win. Also scoring for Rector were Fowler 9, Jesse Scott 2, Wynn 2 and Hollis 1.
