Hazel Swindler Turner

Mrs. Hazel Swindler Turner, 94, of Little Rock died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, in Little Rock.

She was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Ozark, where she later graduated from high school. She attended College of the Ozarks and Arkansas Teachers College, later graduating from the University of Arkansas with a degree in home economics.

She married in 1947 and lived in Mountain Home for several years before moving to Blytheville, where she taught fifth grade for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, was active in the women of the church and taught Sunday school.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leigh Turner of Blytheville, and one brother, M.B. Swindler.

She is survived by one son, Richard Turner and wife Valarie of Riverside, Calif.; one daughter, Sue Ella Robinson and her husband Jack F. Robinson of Maumelle, and two grandchildren, John Thomas Robinson and wife Tomisa of Russellville and Charlotte Brown and husband David Brown of Boston, Mass.

Graveside services were scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 25) at Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway with Warren Wilkewitz officiating. Visitation was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Blytheville.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements.
