Edith Wright Graddy
Edith Wright Graddy, 94, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, where she had been a resident for a number of years.
She was born March 3, 1914, near Piggott and was the fifth child in a family of 14 children of Valley and Rhoda Wright. She was married to Troy Graddy on Nov. 11, 1933, and for over 61 years they enjoyed life and worked together in the home, the fields, the community and the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Feb. 3, 2005; their first child, a still born daughter named Fannie, and a grandson, Billy John Girtman. She was also preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her two children and their families, Irma Dean Girtman and husband Bill and Ronnie Graddy and wife Belinda, all of Piggott; one sister, Lola Risener of Kansas City, Kans.; three brothers, Dalle Wright of Silver Spring, Md., Ponder Wright of Chandler, Texas, and Wingred Wright of Searcy; three grandchildren, Lisa Girtman, Sean Graddy and Troy Lynn Girtman; eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer Robertson, Bryan Manning, Kourtney Manning, Emma Graddy, Alyssa Girtman, Caleb Girtman, John Girtman and Stacy Girtman; three great-great-grandchildren, Kaylee Robertson, Brody Robertson and Natalie Girtman, along with a host of family members and friends.
A faithful and loving wife and mother, she enjoyed most working alongside and helping her husband in the fields. In their latter years, it was Troy who learned to work beside her and for her in the house.
She was a member of the Nimmons Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Lovelace and Winfred Wright officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sean Graddy, Bryan Manning, Justin Roberston, Troy Lynn Girtman, Michael Graddy and Sam Williams Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Williams, Travis Williams, Jimmy Graddy, J.E. Graddy, Lisa Girtman and James Sheridan, M.D.
