The Mohawk baseball squad split a pair of conference games in the past week, and dropped a non-conference decision to one of the top 3A programs in the state. The Tribe was scheduled to host the Corning Bobcats Thursday afternoon and the Rector Cougars on Friday. Saturday the Mohawks will host a JV tournament at Independence Park.

Last Thursday the Mohawks got a three-hit shutout from senior Tyler Grubb as they beat the Hoxie Mustangs 10-0 in the conference opener at Piggott. At the plate Daniel Cheshire led the Mohawks with a three-for-three performance and one RBI. Meanwhile Alek Samples went two-for-three with an RBI and Tanner Murray went two-for-two with two runs batted in on the game. Meanwhile, Grubb struck out a dozen and scattered three walks as he gained his second win of the young season.

Friday afternoon the Tribe hosted the potent Gosnell Pirates in a non-conference home game and dropped a 12-2 decision. Despite the lopsided score, the Mohawks got a solid pitching performance from Murray, and hit the ball well according to coach Shawn Hearn.

Monday afternoon the Rivercrest Colts visited Piggott and posted an 11-2 conference win over the Mohawks. The Tribe could only manage four hits against Colt hurler Josh Fleming, who was an All-State selection last year for Rivercrest in his junior season.

With the conference split the Tribe now stands at 1-1 in 3A-3 play, and 3-2 overall.

Thursday afternoon at 4:00 the Corning Bobcats will visit the Mohawks, and Friday afternoon at 4:00 they'll play host to the Rector Cougars in a non-conference game. The JV tournament is set for this Saturday at Independence Park in Piggott with first pitch for the first game set for 9 a.m.
