He was born Sept. 16, 1937, in Pollard to the late Woodrow D. and Frances (Latta) Templeton.
He attended schools in Michigan and Arkansas and graduated from Piggott High School in 1955. He served in the Arkansas National Guard while in high school and was a member of the U.S. Air Force security service from 1955 to 1975 with assignments in Japan, the Philippines, Okinawa, Thailand and Turkey. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1975 and then entered St. Philip's College in Texas, where he earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Schomer) Templeton, on Dec. 2, 2005.
Survivors include three brothers, Larry K. Templeton and wife Phyllis of Baton Rouge, La., Robert S. Templeton and wife Susan and Lanny L. Templeton and wife Rita, all of Lexington, Ky., and two sisters, Barbara Jo Crouch and husband Jerry of Lexington, Ky., and Annette T. Bell and husband Robert of Daphne, Ala.
Other survivors include Mary S. Myers and husband Phillip Sr., who had been special friends for many years, especially during Jake and Betty's battles with cancer; Patricia S. and Edward Vertuyft, Ernest and Mary Schomer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 10, at the Dellcrest Funeral Home Chapel in San Antonio. Burial followed at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
