The Piggott Lady Mohawk softball team has gotten off to a rocky 1-3 start so far this season, as the Tribe looks to compete in the tough 3A-3 conference. The Mohawks began their season with a home loss to Tuckerman back on March 9, then dropped a double-header to Corning before notching their first win of the season over Hoxie.

The girls were scheduled to visit the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds for a non-conference game Monday, and will be hosting the Lady Hounds this Thursday, March 26, at Independence Park. Next Monday they'll travel to the Wilson area for a conference game with the Lady Colts of Rivercrest, and will host Harrisburg on Thursday, April 2.

The squad will wrap up the regular season with a home game against Hoxie on April 6, a trip to Brookland on April 7, and a visit to Tuckerman April 14. The district tournament will be held the following week at Harrisburg.

This year's Lady Mohawk softball team, which is under the direction of coach Nikki Speer and assistant coach Melissa Williams, is big in numbers but a little short on game experience. As the season progresses they'll be looking to a variety of both seniors and underclassmen for leadership in what has become a difficult conference in which to compete.
