Visitors to the 11th annual Piggott Heritage Park Car Show will notice very little difference from the 2008 event, although the show has new organizers and a new name this year.

The car show, which draws hundreds of entries from across the Southeastern United States, will be held May 16 and is presented by the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Clay County Relay For Life teams.

"We expect over 500 classic and custom cars at this year's event," chamber secretary Sharon Bellers noted. "The schedule of events for both participants and those in attendance has changed very little from last year."

Bellers added that all the popular attractions, including the cruise, car blow-up and 50/50 drawing all are included in this year's schedule. She also noted some new kid's games will be added, along with the usual food, fun and live entertainment.

The majority of activities will take place Saturday at Heritage Park, culminating with the annual cruise through town that evening.

Admission to the park Saturday is $3 for everyone age 14 and older. The day's activities will begin with a breakfast from 6 to 9:30 a.m. Cost of the breakfast is $4 per person, and the meal is being served by the SuperCruise Group.

Throughout the day there will be a variety of games, drawings and music from DJ Steve Southard. The Spoke-N-Word chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Club will operate a food stand offering cheeseburgers, hamburgers, barbecued bologna sandwiches, drinks and sweet treats.

The highlight of the day will be the annual cruise, as hundreds of cars and trucks will parade through the streets of Piggott and assemble on the courtsquare. The event has become a huge part of the weekend and regularly draws thousands of spectators.

There also will be live entertainment on the square that evening featuring "Kenny and the Flashbacks" as they fill the air with the sounds of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Organizers also noted some of the Relay For Life teams will be running concession stands and added many of the downtown merchants will be open that evening.

"We're really looking forward to this year's car show," Bellers added. "We are especially proud that the event also will benefit the American Cancer Society this year."

Those who want more information on the car show may contact the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce at 870 598-3167 or by email at pchamber@piggott.net.
