Mohawks to host district tournament

Wednesday, April 8, 2009
It's been eight years since the Piggott Mohawks hosted the district baseball tournament, and this year the Tribe will not only host the annual event--they've got a chance to shine on their home field. The tournament is scheduled for April 17-20 at Independence Park as eight teams compete for a chance to advance to the regional tournament.

Currently the seeding for the tournament has yet to be decided, as the regular season won't wrap up until the end of the week. But the Tribe has a good chance to be one of the top three seeds this year, especially if they perform well against Tuckerman and Corning in the last two regular season games.

The district tournament will begin Friday, April 17 with games scheduled for 4 p.m. and 6:30. The competition will continue beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 18 with games going on all day and wrapping up with the 7:30 p.m. contest.

Monday, April 20 the consolation game will be played at 4 p.m. with the championship game scheduled for 6:30 that evening.

Taking part will be the Mohawks, Corning Bobcats, Rivercrest Colts, Tuckerman Bulldogs, Manila Lions, Harrisburg Hornets, Hoxie Mustangs and Brookland Bearcats. The complete bracket will be found in next week's edition of The Piggott Times.
