The 2009 Clay County Relay For Life will officially kick off at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, with the annual Survivors Dinner at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott. The dinner also will include the introduction of this year's honored survivors, Nancy and Tommy Hardcastle of Piggott.

The annual Relay For Life will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. the following Saturday, April 25, at Heritage Park. The event, held each year to raise money for the fight against cancer, will be going on throughout the day with a variety of games, activities and the walk. The day will begin that morning with the survivors walk and will conclude late that evening with a luminary ceremony and the naming of the winners in the various competitions.

The week of the Relay also will coincide with the 37th annual recognition of "National Volunteer Week" April 19-25. In celebration, the American Cancer Society will honor more than three million volunteers nationwide.

Those who want more information about the Survivors Dinner or who are interested in volunteering their time for the upcoming Relay For Life may contact Clay County chair Susie Bowman at 598-3457 or 529-3650. Those who want more information on cancer may contact the American Cancer Society online at www.cancer.org.
